For fishing and deep sea fishing, there is hardly a better place in the Atlantic than Cape Verde. The islands are surrounded by deep water and have many local populations of big fish.

Cape Verde is one of the best areas for blue marlin. This impressive predator (the big ones reach a good 500 kg) swims in local waters all year round, but for a catch the period from late March to July is best.

Although it is legal in Cape Verde to keep many of the fish species caught, some operators work hard to protect and conserve fish stocks - especially marlin and shark - by only tagging and then releasing their catch.
